Make voluntary activities compulsory for students: Rosmah

KUALA LUMPUR: Institutes of higher learning should make it compulsory for students to get involved in voluntary activities, said Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
"The nation needs citizens and future leaders who are not only intellectually capable and civic-minded but also those who care for their fellow citizens, especially the less fortunate," she said.
The Prime Minister's wife stressed that the spirit of social work and volunteerism, especially among students, was important in the creation of a harmonious society."A loving and caring society will in turn complement the nation's endeavour towards economic development and prosperity," she said during the launch of the MIA International Art Exhibition at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry here Thursday.
Local artists as well as those from Singapore, Taiwan, China and Myanmar contributed their works to be sold at the exhibition.
Proceeds from the exhibition will be used to help needy students further their studies in the area of art and design at the Malaysian Art Institute.
